Evolution Series™ EDGE

Evolution Series™ EDGE

The ideal microwave solution for All IP/Ethernet and E1 connectivity. Perfect for base-station backhaul in 2G, 3G, LTE and WiMAX networks.

Overview

Evolution Series™ EDGE is a fully software configurable Point-to-Point microwave radio system.

Transmission capacity, Adaptive Coded Modulation (ACM), Ethernet features and TDM-cross-connect are controlled by licenses and upgrades can easily be done after installation.

One single IFU and one single Transceiver per frequency band set a new standard for the logistics of deploying and maintaining base-station backhaul by microwave or other similar large deployments.

Small size, extremely low power consumption and extended temperature range of the IFU are other important parameters that will save cost for the network owners due to less need for cooling and easier to mount the unit in outdoor cabinets.

With a measurement of only 227 x 181 x 37 mm for the IFU of the Evolution Series™ EDGE you can place two units in a 19” rack.

Details

Evolution Series™ EDGE utilises native mapping of Ethernet and E1 into the radio frame. E1 capacity is selectable between 0 and 20xE1. Remaining link capacity is used for Ethernet traffic.

Fixed or adaptive modulation is selectable in RF-channels of 7, 14 or 28-30 MHz. Changes and upgrades can be done by the user without hardware changes of the basic platform.

In adaptive modulation mode, the radio will select the highest possible throughput based on received signal quality.

If the signal quality is degraded due to link fading or interference, the radio will change to a more robust modulation and link throughput is consequently reduced. When signal quality improves, the modulation is automatically increased and link throughput is restored to the original setting.

The throughput changes are hitless (no bit errors introduced).  During a period of reduced throughput, the traffic is prioritised based on packet QoS and E1 priority settings. In case of congestion, Ethernet traffic with the lowest priority is dropped. E1 capacity is fixed per modulation state based on the E1 priority setting.
