Aid to flood victims in Pakistan

Due to Pakistans emergency situation Nera has now given a donation of 1 million PKR to the Pakistan Army Flood Relief Fund. At least 1,600 people have been killed, and 6 million are in urgent need.

 

Aid to flood victims in Pakistan

Mr Syed Mueen Sikander, Country Manager, Pakistan has taken the responsibility in handling the donation, and decided to give it to the Pakistan Army Flood Relief Fund. He finds that the army has done an extraordinary job in giving aid to the suffering victims.

“The army is providing field hospitals, shelters, food, security and evacuation of the affected people from the devastated areas, - country wide. This activity will continue for a long period of time.”

In return Major General Waqar Ahmed, in the Pakistan Army has sent a letter of gratitude.  According to the letter Nera's contribution was very well received, and has been brought into the knowledge of the highest ranks in the organization.

  • Heavy monsoon rains in north west Pakistan have caused rivers to burst their banks
  • At least 1,600 people are believed to have been killed and entire villages have been swept away
  • Some 20 million people have been affected and 6 million are in urgent need of food aid, according to the UN
  • Around $460m is required for immediate needs, around $275m has been donated so far
