In January 2009 the 75 km radio communication link between the drilling rig Transocean Searcher on the Gjøa field and Gulen on the west coast of Norway was put in to operation.

While a traditional, and more expensive, satelite solution will have a typical capacity of up to 2 Mb/s, the Nera Networks PointLink solution can deliver up to 150 Mb/s at a much lower cost.

The PointLink solution uses Nera's own Evolution Series™ microwave radio equipment combined with a special stabilized antenna.
