Offshore link successful
PointLink
Nera Networks has delivered the new radio communication link between the Gjøa field in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea and the mainland.

StatoilHydro is operator during the construction period with Aker Solutions as contractor. Gaz de France will take over as operator in 2010 when the Gjøa platform is put in to production.
In January 2009 the 75 km radio communication link between the drilling rig
Transocean Searcher on the
Gjøa field and Gulen on the west coast of Norway was put in to operation.
While a traditional, and more expensive, satelite solution will have a typical capacity of up to 2 Mb/s, the Nera Networks PointLink solution can deliver up to 150 Mb/s at a much lower cost.
The PointLink solution uses Nera's own Evolution Series™ microwave radio equipment combined with a special stabilized antenna.
